In Memory Of Clinton "Buzz" Shaver Many of us who went to school at Alta Vista remember Buzz Shaver, he lived out on Lea Street. He was a cool guy, a "Fonzie" type guy. Buzz married Karen Ewers (Class of 1967) and shipped out to Vietnam about 10 days later. Buzz was killed in action on his 21st birthday, 1969. I came upon this internet site while working reference at the Public Library earlier this year. It has not left me alone since looking at it. I remember Buzz and how neat a guy he was.

Steve Rumfield Lots of us remember that awful October afternoon. Steve Rumfield rode a "441 Victor BSA motorcycle to school everyday. After School he took Steve Smith (Class of 1967) home on North Edwards street. He took off back toward Blodgett street but never stopped at the intersection hitting the car broad side and Steve Rumfield was gone instantly. What a tragic accident and end to a "cool" guys life.
Kenny H. Gregg In early 1996 Kenny Gregg came to the Library and asked me "isn't it about time to get started preparing for our 30th year Class Reunion". Kenny was the guy behind that reunion, he worked hard getting things together for our reunion. He pushed on all the committee to keep things moving. Kenny had retired from the WIPP site a few years before because of heart problems but was still active in the community. On May 1st, 1999 Kenny Gregg passed away after a long year battle with throat cancer. I had the honor of doing the eulogy for my friends funeral and spreading his ashes per his wishes. He is sorely missed by Family and Friends. Kenny H. Gregg 1949 - 1999

A lot of young men and women are putting their lives on the line for all of us in foreign countries and I Thank Them for that each day. Some of them have given the their lives for the freedom we enjoy one of those has touched the class of 1967. Obit that follows is Micah Gifford, son of Dale Gifford (1967). I know we all send Dale and Marsha our deepest sympathy.

REE MUNSON This has been one of the most difficult writings for me to put up on the Web site since I started it up back in September of 2006. I have prolonged writing this for many months, even after asking Jerilyn if she thought her mother Betty Munson wouldn't mind me doing this.
I
met Ree Munson sometime in 1960 when Ree and Jerilyn moved to Happy Valley from
the ranch in Dog Canyon. they only had school up there in Dog
Canyon up to the 5th grade.
Ree Munson was tragically killed in a car wreck on Hwy 137 She was a junior at Carsbad Senior High School As I understand Ree and her mother were heading up to the ranch in Dog Canyon when the accident occurred. I have only a couple of photos of her. Ree was a "Tom Boy" having worked riding horses and herding cows while growing up. She was a special Girl like none other I have ever met. All of us guys who lived in Happy Valley rode horses, milked cows and did various amounts of Ranch work. So when Ree Munson moved to Happy Valley we just couldn't believe a Girl could out ride us ...... but yes it was so. She could ride, rope, barrel race and she was great at all of it. But that wasn't what had all of us guys tongues hanging out..... It was that she was a beautiful girl that had a cute little smile and a funny giggle for a laugh. We would go down to the end of Harmon Lane where the Munson's lived taking our lives in our hands not knowing if her Dad, James Munson was there or in the hills at the ranch. You see James didn't want any of us "hairy legged" boys hanging around his girls (and rightly so) But the attraction was so great, Ree and Jerilyn were both "knock down gorgeous" Jerilyn never rode much but Ree was always on a horse so there was the perfect way to get her out of the house. We would just ride by their house, Ree would see us and she would go out and saddle up and take off. That was easy enough but when it came time and she had to go home us boys wanted to ride with her all the way back to the house. Most of the time this was not problem but sometimes while we were out riding with her James would come home and sure enough he would be looking for her. James Munson was a BIG guy and we were scared to death of him. I can still feel that terror of seeing him come out of that house as we would ride up with Ree. Man we couldn't get those horses turned around quick enough and get away from that house. However that never stopped us for long, the allurement was to great we would take the chance again just as soon as we could. Later on in Mid High and then High School Ree dated one of my good friends, (now deceased) Mike Morran. I think the last time I remember seeing Ree was late one afternoon, Mike had came to Happy Valley in his blue 56 chevy to pick her up for a date. I was in my back yard working on my Harley and they pulled up to say hi. There are some out there who will remember Ree, exactly this same way I do, isn't that right John Bob, Jerilyn, Sue Freeman, LaRay Evans, David Huggins, Shelby Rogers, Wanda and Linda McFarland ?
