"STUCK IN THE 60's BAND" for the past 4 years have played during the Memorial Day weekend at the "Riverside Country Club" and many of you have attended this "Bash".  Because of a date conflict with some of the band members the Club has asked us to play over the 4th of July Holiday this year.  Saturday night July 5th will be "Our" night Classmates and we will rock you.

What a wonderful time we had last year at the "Class of 67" Reunion, We are excited about being back at the "Riverside Country Club"  and hope to see the overwhelming crowd again this year.   The 4th is a special weekend in Carlsbad, come visit with your family and friends, watch the Fireworks at the Beach and join all your Carlsbad Senior High School Classmates on Saturday night at "Riverside Country Club."

For a couple of months Jeanene Pruiett Strickland and Shirley Bridges Henderson and Don Spruill have worked on planning this Mini Reunion.  Some of you have already received emails from the gals about this Event.  As plans are finalized they will be posted here.

Check back often, more information will be available as plans are made.

"CHECK IT OUT"

I posted this over on the "FORUM" and I want to post it on the Home page as well.     It was sent to me via email by Alma (Rios) Elizondo  (CSHS 1967).   I think it perfectly illustrates what a lot of us have been thinking.   Please take a moment to read it.   Thanks ALMA !!!

Why We Should Attend The 40TH CSHS Reunion.

I was at church this morning where we were congratulating the graduating Seniors of  this year, 2007.  I looked at their faces and the excitement in their eyes.  It was then that I was reminded that I, myself, graduated forty (40) years ago, 1967.  That’s a long, long time ago but time has gone by so fast that it seems like only yesterday.

I have never attended a CSHS Reunion but my husband, Albert, and I plan to attend the 40th Class Reunion this year.  He graduated in 1968.  I thought of not attending just like many of you have, I’m sure.  Some of my reasons were…..”I’m too heavy, I look too old, I haven’t seen these people in years; will I even know them, will they remember me, etc. etc.”  But then I started thinking of the many friends that I have that aren’t even with us anymore and I was reminded of the many blessings that we have and one of these is the fact that we can reunite with our many high school friends.  Who cares what we look like?  Inside, our hearts, are all still the same.  We still care for each other and getting together will be a great thing.  So what if we’re overweight, old looking, etc. etc.  Hey, it’s been forty (40) years for ALL of us and if there’s anyone out there that still looks the same way they did when were Seniors in high school, I want to shake their hand.

Let’s look at the inward man and enjoy the blessing of being able to reunite with each other.  Who knows?  It might be for the last time!!!

See you at the Reunion, OK,  Alma Rios Elizondo

**  CLASS REUNION MEETING NOTES **

Thursday, June 21, 2007  - 7:00 pm

@ Melba and Tommy Phillips Home

The final Class Reunion meeting was at Melba and Tommy Phillips house.   Those present were,  Israel Palma,  Carol Williams, Nona Robbins, Melba Magby, Debbie White, Kathy Bradford, Carolyn Wallace, Steve Angell, Mike Ackman, Larry Hargis, Lanny Barnett.

Registration numbers were up to (as of 6/21/07), registered & paid 147 classmates, producing 245 people).  Discussion of what everyone thought final attendance would be.  We could think of about 20 more classmates who say they are coming.  Most of us think Friday and Saturday a lot of people will just "show up"  It was decided we would rather be long on food than not have enough to feed everyone who comes.  Israel will order for 296 people.

Nona Reported on the Financial Status,  money is still a issue and we know we are right on the edge but there are some places within the budget to wiggle.  We each have had people call us and say they are coming and want to pay when they get there.  If those people prove out we should be ok.

Name tags and decorations are under control thanks to Carolyn Keeney, Jeanene Pruiett, Carol Martinez, Melba Magby, Debbie Workman, Kathy Gossett, Rita Woodman.

Mike and Beth Ackman have the meal tickets ready to go.

Larry Hargis has been to the Carousel House several times lately pre-planning for Tables, Chairs, Lighting and talking with the maintenance people at the Pecos River Village Convention Center.

Steve Angell has the Video people scheduled to be there Friday and Saturday night.

Plans are:  "Stuck In The 60's Band will start setting up at 10:00am Thursday, Decorating and set up people will come in that morning also and begin their work.  They will come back that night to check out the lighting situation.

Rees Lucas, the sound man for the band will provide the "Canned Music" for the Friday night mixer.  He will have any music we want from the 40's to 2000 ready to que up on the computer.

Thanks to Melba for the Hospitality, the chips & dips, the wine and those wonderful sliced strawberries with the cream cheese and marsh mellow dip ummmm..... that was good.

This was the last Committee meeting and  I would once again like to thank all those who have attended any of the meetings over the past 9 months.  Without you help and input the  "Class of 67"  would be lost.

A BIG THANK YOU TO:

Israel Palma, Nona (Robbins) Johnston, Mike and Beth (Forni) Ackman, Steve Angel, Melba (Magby) Phillips,   Debbie (White) & Jimmy Workman, Alma (Rios) & Albert Elizondo, Robert Patton, Carol (Williams) Martinez, Larry Hargis, Kathy (Bradfrod) Gossett, John Phillips, Ron Fry, Carolyn (Wallace) & Jim Kenney, Larry Gregory, Bill Harrison, Mike VeilleuxHal & Shirley (Jones) Cottingham, Don Galbraith

Looking forward to seeing everyone on June 29 & 30.

Lanny W. Barnett

The response to the Web Site and Guest book has been more than I could have ever hoped for, I believe electronic media is the way to spread the news of our 40th reunion and make it a great success like the previous reunions have been.  A BIG thanks to all of you for the photos you have sent and all the great input about the Web site.......Keep it up!!!!

.

I was sent what follows yesterday afternoon.  After reading it I can see it came from the Heart... So I put here for everyone.  Please take a moment to read this.

JUST WHY DO WE COME TO REUNIONS?

A ROMANTIC'S LAMENT

The Marlboro Man may have thought this mushy, but there is no getting around it.  We reunite with our classmates for the same reasons we unite occasionally with family members...to visit and valuate the roots of our lives, the formative years, and in this case, the history of the graduating class of 1967.  We do it with a bash!  We don't do it in formals and in limos, not in tiaras and tuxes, not to boast of our accomplishments nor to brandish our shiny baubels, but in sandals and shorts and gaudy Hawaiian shirts.  According to some of the messages floated about, we want a party!...A party that is not with royalty (although most of 'our' women could be "Queen For a Day"...any day.), but with genuine interest and friendship to share life's journey for each one of us...with open hearts, open arms, and acceptance.

Through nostalgic activities, curiosity in other's history, and our own introspection, we reconnect
with our classmates to discover the common thread that binds all communities...we are, in varying degrees, a part of each other's lives.

After graduation, we took a ride on the river of life...some in canoes, rafts, inner tubes etc.  Of course, some required yachts, others used cruise ships.  Some were assigned to P.T. boats to go upriver...a few, never to return.   Some of us booked a tour on the 'S.S. Minnow' and chose to stay and enjoy the still, peaceful waters of the Pecos.  Fewer still chose to take a side trip up to Santa Fe and enjoy the comforts of the 'Big House Bed 'n Breakfast'.

Now, we choose---to share our life or not.  It really doesn't matter how we got here!  The main objective is to arrive!...to be here!...to celebrate together that which binds us (some closer than others) to the roots we have at Carlsbad High School, to our desert town, and to our classmates of the Class of '67!

Grace our lives with your presence.  Please take time to celebrate!  Park your 'sailing' vessel momentarily, whatever it may be, at the Carrousel House on the Pecos.  Join us in saluting and feasting those of us who've made the trip this far...and in honoring in somber remembrances of those who did not.  To some of us, destiny burdened with challenges on this river-of-life journey.  We have seen some rough waters, full of sadness and hardships...perhaps to make us tough for the challenges which we hardly deserve.  Others have not been so lucky---they were handed silver spoons with which to row their cumbersome ships.  We are a community of friends, though.

To all who decide to come to this festive rendezvous, we pledge an effort to make this sweet meeting, a moment in our lives that will last a long time. (We cannot say 'unforgettable' because the years are creeping up on us, no?

The "STUCK IN THE SIXTIES BAND" will provide music...our old music...to dance to.  Let your hair down (those that have it!) and enjoy.  In-between the bouts of this music madness...somewhere!...there will be opportunities to, very quietly, share with a "significant other' the romance and tenderness of a summer evening by the Pecos...to the notes of Blue Velvet, Crazy by Patsy Cline, or The Beatles' Yesterday... maybe remembering the awkward embraces of our youth...the early visits to the Fiesta or Big Sky drive-in,  Werewolf Hill? Wildcat Bluff?  the cotton fields of Old Cavern Highway?  C Hill?  the hayloft in the barn? the flumes? Who knows where this may lead?...Or we could just sit at home, drink a Bud and watch television...re-runs of Gilligan's Island!!!  Oh brother!

Some of us are at a bend on our "river tour".  We can see our past progress, but our future in only an optomistic venture.  Most choose to be positive of the coming years.  We know there is sunshine among the clouds of uncertainty.  Let us toast the past and plan to have many repeats of these memories.  Come join us and share your life!   The best is yet to come.
